What the test measures
The test covers grammar and vocabulary from A1 to C1. The TCF also assesses listening, reading, writing and speaking, so treat the result as a starting point, then do a full reading or listening set to get a level closer to the real test.
From CEFR level to TCF score
| CEFR level | TCF listening and reading (/699) | TCF writing and speaking (/20) |
|---|---|---|
| C1 | 500 to 599 | 14 to 17 |
| B2 | 400 to 499 | 10 to 13 |
| B1 | 300 to 399 | 6 to 9 |
| A2 | 200 to 299 | 2 to 5 |
| A1 | 100 to 199 | 1 |
For Canada, NCLC 7 sits around B2 in writing and speaking (10 or 11 out of 20).
