How to do well in reading
- Read the question before the document. You know what to look for, which saves precious time on long texts.
- Manage your time. You have 60 minutes for 39 questions: don't get stuck on the first, easier ones, and keep time for the longer B2 to C2 texts.
- Watch out for words copied from the text. The correct answer often rephrases the document, so an option that repeats its exact words can be a trap.
- Answer every question. A wrong answer does not cost you points.
Frequently asked questions
How does the TCF Canada reading section work?+−
39 multiple choice questions in 60 minutes, each with 4 options and one correct answer. Documents range from A1 (signs, short messages) to C2 (argumentative or literary texts), in order of increasing difficulty.
And in the TCF IRN or TCF Québec?+−
TCF IRN: 25 questions in 35 minutes, up to B2. TCF Québec: 29 questions in 45 minutes. Choose the mode at the start of each set and we keep the right number of questions and time limit.
How is the estimated score calculated?+−
The official scoring for each question is not published. We weight each correct answer by its level (a C2 question earns more than an A1 question) and bring the total onto the test's scale: 100 to 699 for the TCF Canada and Québec, 100 to 499 for the TCF IRN. It is an estimate to help you see where you stand.
Are these real exam questions?+−
No. Every document and question is written by our team in the official format. The "real questions" circulating online are candidates' memories, often inaccurate, and sharing them is not allowed.
