TCF listening: practice sets with audio

Full sets in the TCF format: 39 audio documents of increasing difficulty, from A1 to C2, with the transcript and an explanation for every answer. Choose TCF Canada, TCF Québec or TCF IRN mode.

TL;DR

  • Each listening set has 39 audio documents from A1 to C2, as in the TCF Canada (35 minutes).
  • In the real test, each document is played only once: practise under those conditions.
  • The first 5 questions of every set are free, with the transcript and an explanation for each answer.

How to do well in listening

  • Read the question and the 4 options before you listen. You will know what to focus on.
  • You hear each document once. On test day, each document is played only once, so practise under those conditions as soon as you can.
  • Don't get stuck. If you missed something, pick the most likely answer and move on.
  • Listen to varied French every day: radio, podcasts, the news. The B2 to C2 documents imitate these formats.

Frequently asked questions

How does the TCF Canada listening section work?+
39 multiple choice questions in 35 minutes. Each audio document is played only once, and difficulty rises from A1 (announcements, simple messages) to C2 (debates, lectures).
And in the TCF IRN or TCF Québec?+
TCF IRN: 25 questions in 20 minutes, up to B2. TCF Québec: 29 questions in 25 minutes. Choose the mode at the start of each set.
Where does the audio come from?+
The documents are recorded with natural sounding French synthetic voices, with different voices for dialogues. If a recording is not available, your browser's French voice reads the document. The transcript appears after you answer.
Are these real exam recordings?+
No. Every document and question is written by our team in the official format. We never share past test material.
